Sometimes the simpler the website design the better, but not always. The more graphics you have on a page the longer it takes to load in the visitor's browser, and they may move to the next website before it's full loaded. Nobody likes to wait for a slow website.

Well designed websites with graphics can catch your visitor's interest and keep them at your website. Make sure that the graphics are of good quality. Low quality graphics are a distraction and can give your visitors the feeling that the information you offer will be of the same quality.

You will also need to do your research. Your website design needs to relate to the kind of audience you're trying to reach. If you're trying to reach graphic artists then graphics is a most. On the other hand if your website is information based your website design can have minimal to no graphics.

Navigation

Good website design also includes having good navigation. Make sure your visitors can find their way around. Again, poor navigation can frustrate your visitors and they will leave your website and move on to the next website.

Make sure your websites design has a navigation zone and that it's in the same place on all of your pages. It's also a good idea to include a second set of links on each page. If you normally have the navigation close to the top and pages are long, you can include a row of navigation across the bottom of each page.

If you're still not sure what good website design is visit some of your competitor's websites. If when you're there you start to grind your teeth and get frustrated remember not to design your website same. If you find one that keeps your interest then try to incorporate some of the same feel and try to improve on it. But, what ever you do, remember, there are copy right laws. So stay away from copying other websites.

Browser Compatibility

Browser compatibility is important as well. Your website design can look different from one browser to another.

To check browser compatibility all you need to do is view your website design in the different bowsers that are available. To see what I mean veiw this website in Internet Explorer and then FireFox. You will see a difference in the template design just below each of the search boxes. Sometime the whole layout can change. So do yourself and favor and check the browser compatibility.
